At about 11:30, some of our relatives began to show up. My great aunt and uncle arrived with their daughter-in-law and her two children, and they also brought the guest of honor: Great Nan and Granddad Jones. The two children are the only relatives for a long ways in our family that are younger than Harry (my brother) and I. I'm seventeen, Harry is 15, Ali is 11, and her younger brother Joe is 5.
For about an hour or so, we chatted in my grandparents' living space, but after that we headed out to a restaurant called "Maffias," which was really good. When we arrived, we met up with more relatives: my aunt and uncle on my father's side. The restaurant was a small place, with a bar and seating, and AMAZING food! I have a couple pictures that I will share with you at a later time of the desserts. They were INCREDIBLE!!! Another interesting thing to note: I learned that, in England, you are allowed to have a beer with a meal from the age of 14. I didn't know this, however, and when I was asking the waitress what drinks were available, she asked me if I was interested in a beer. I refused, but was quite chuffed (I thought it meant I looked 18). I also found that the people at my table were encouraging me to try alcohol, much to my surprise. But I stuck with sparkling apple juice to drink.
After dessert, we all went back to my grandparents' house again and we chatted, ate "tea" (light dinner) and had cake. I actually had some real fun conversations with my aunt and uncle on my dad's side. We're going to visit them again in a little over a week.
That's what I did today.
EDIT Okay here are some picture from the day. Just incase you'd like to see them! (Note: not in chronological order!)
First: the cake! And yes, they really have been married 70 1/2 years. It's not a lie!
Second: My dessert from the restaurant! It's a form of chocolate cheesecake, but British cheesecake isn't like American cheesecake... I'll explain the difference later.
Third: Chamy hanging with my Uncle!
Hey Ben, hope you've been enjoying England so far! Look forward to seeing you all in a week :)
